A City Hosting the ASEAN Exposition Has Been Declared
22nd China-Asean Expo Set to Boost Economic Ties and Technology Partnerships
The 22nd China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO) will be held in Nanning, Guangxi, on Sept 17. This annual event, which started as a platform for promoting multilateral free trade, has evolved to drive cross-border investment and technology partnerships.
Organisers anticipate significant agreements will be signed during the CAEXPO, with about 3,200 enterprises from 45 countries, including ASEAN nations such as Thailand, expected to participate. The focus will be on new collaborative areas like artificial intelligence (AI), the green economy, and electric vehicles.
Guangxi's strategic location allows it to share AI expertise with five Asean states, particularly with developing nations like Myanmar and Laos. One such AI company is Maiyue Technology, a Guangxi-based company that markets hardware and software solutions in Asean. Maiyue Technology has developed tools supporting regional languages, including Thai, Khmer, and Burmese.
The Asean Artificial Intelligence Collaborative Innovation Centre, another initiative to drive AI collaboration in the region, has been set up in Guangxi. This centre aims to promote joint research and nurture regional innovation.
China's push is towards deepening economic ties with Asean, as underscored by the CAEXPO. Wei Chaohui, secretary-general of the Expo secretariat, stated that the exhibition drives cross-border investment and technology partnerships. He also mentioned that the Expo continues independently of global trade tensions.
Thai companies are being encouraged to expand their presence in the regional market at the CAEXPO. However, specific Thai companies participating in the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning on September 17 are not named in the available sources.
Over 1,600 companies from 40 countries, including 470 international firms, are expected to participate in the CAEXPO. AI, the green economy, and electric vehicles are highlighted as key areas of collaboration at the event. The CAEXPO also emphasises sustainable development and supply chain integration.
In summary, the 22nd China-Asean Expo aims to strengthen economic ties between China and ASEAN nations, particularly through technology partnerships and investments. The event will focus on AI, the green economy, and electric vehicles, with the goal of expanding regional market share through innovation, digital economy, and green trade under the upgraded Version 3.0 China-ASEAN Free Trade Area framework.
