In the sun-kissed town of El Palmar, located just 5 km from the city of Murcia, a wave of excitement is sweeping through its 24,000 inhabitants. This vibrant community, also known as Lugar de Don Juan, has become the birthplace and current residence of a global tennis sensation – Carlos Alcaraz.

Born on May 5, 2003, in this picturesque town, Carlos Alcaraz has made history with his impressive record, including four Grand Slam titles and a historic victory at Roland-Garros in June. To honour this hometown hero, a giant 400 m² mural was inaugurated at the entrance of the village. The large-format mural, created by local tattoo artist Archangel Tattoo, captures the spirit of Carlos Alcaraz, paying tribute to his victories in Miami and Madrid.

The town's cultural scene also shines brightly. The Teatro Bernal, inaugurated in 1910, has been hosting theatrical performances and cultural events for over a century. Another cultural gem is the Cabaña Buenavista, a restaurant that has been honoured by the Michelin Guide.

Carlos Alcaraz, the second of four brothers, confided in a documentary titled Carlos Alcaraz: My Way, aired on Netflix, that he enjoys staying at home in El Palmar. The estimated value of his modest family apartment is 200,000 euros. The castle of La Asomada, a historical landmark in El Palmar, was built in the 12th century and offers a stunning view of the surrounding nature, which includes many trails for outdoor activities.

Historically, El Palmar has been occupied by various civilizations, including Iberians, Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, and Arabs. The castle of La Asomada, located at over 500 m altitude, once served as a lookout point for the coast and the interior of the land.

As the story of Carlos Alcaraz continues to unfold, El Palmar remains a beacon of pride and inspiration for its residents and visitors alike. The town's rich history, vibrant culture, and the humble roots of its tennis prodigy make it a unique destination worth exploring.
