Wehen Wiesbaden, promoted to the second division, aim to avoid direct relegation this season. They narrowly escaped relegation previously and find themselves facing off against Jahn Regensburg, who are aiming for an immediate promotion to League 2 after spending only one year in League 3.

Regensburg Battles Wiesbaden's Wehen in Football Encounter - 2. League: The promotion/demotion is broadcasted for free!

At 8:30 pm on Friday, the first match of the 2nd division relegation play-off takes place in Regensburg, with the second game happening next Tuesday in Wiesbaden.

Last season, SVWW had a disastrous second half, gathering only ten points from their remaining 17 games. This caused their previous eight-point lead over the direct relegation spots to quickly vanish, and they narrowly avoided being sent to the 3rd division.

Incidentally, SVWW manager Nils Doering (44) received a red card during their loss against Pauli. This means he'll have to sit out the first game in Regensburg. He admitted to Sky Sports: "I made a massive mistake. I'm sorry for letting my teammates down. I hope for a lenient sentence."

Interestingly, Jahn Regensburg, too, struggled in the second half of their season. They were once capable leaders in the 3rd division, predicted to be a sure-fire promotion contender. But a sudden drop in form led to a disastrous performance, with only two teams performing worse than them in the second half of the league. This ultimately left them in a disappointing third place, which saw them relegated.

SVV coach Joe Enochs (52) of Magenta Sport commented on their upcoming opponent: "We need to give it our all in the last two games, whether it's against Wiesbaden or Rostock. We owe it to ourselves." However, during the interview, the opposing team had not yet been determined.

Regensburg vs. Wiesbaden: The 2nd division relegation play-off will be broadcast live on free-to-air TV

Great news: Sat1 will be airing both matches between Regensburg and Wiesbaden live, along with offering a free stream on ran.de. Sky and WOW (both advertising-supported) will also be showing the relegation play-off.
