Employment in Major Las Vegas Industries Fully Recovers, According to a Recent Report

Nevada's job market has completely bounced back from the pandemic, as per the recent stats by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation (DETR). However, there's a catch.

For the first time, every single industry sector in the state has fully recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic and now employs more workers than they did before it hit. In July, the state's labor force increased by 3,400 individuals, marking a solid eight consecutive months of growth. Unemployment also took a slight dip, from 5.4% to 5.3%.

If we look back over the past 12 months, Nevada's labor force has expanded by roughly 24,000 people, which equals a 1.5% boost. This surge in employment has been consistent for eight consecutive months.

Almost 75% of Nevada's population resides in Clark County (i.e., Las Vegas). There, employment in the entertainment capital of the world recorded an impressive increase of 1,700 positions (0.2%) since last month, with a whopping 41,200 jobs (3.8%) added since July 2022.

Gotta Catch 'Em All

Despite the positive news, Nevada's 5.3% unemployment rate remains the highest in the country—a title it's held since the beginning of the pandemic three years ago. As of June 2023, Washington D.C. and California followed closely, with rates of 5.1% and 4.6% respectively.

On a more positive note, hope is on the horizon for Las Vegas. The city expects three significant hiring pushes in the upcoming months. The MSG Sphere anticipates hiring up to 3,000 individuals, while the Fontainebleau, the first freshly constructed Strip casino since the opening of Resorts World in 2021, plans to hire 6,000 new staff members.

Away from the glitz and glamour of the Strip, the Durango Casino and Resort at Red Rock is about to start recruiting 1,200 people in the hospitality industry.
