Final match played at home. - Emotional goodbye for Kroos
Toni Kroos (34) played his final home match for Real Madrid on Saturday in a 0-0 tie against Real Betis. However, the outcome was not the main focus, as Kroos is set to leave the team after ten years and end his extraordinary career following the European Championship this summer. The event was suitably commemorated.
A Moving Goodbye for Toni Kroos
The climactic moment occurred in the 86th minute: Kroos was taken out of the game, leading to a sequence of heartwarming moments. Kroos' teammates, coach Carlo Ancelotti (64), and the staff hugged him, while the entire stadium chanted "Toni."
Then emotions overflowed: Kroos' family, including his mother, Jessica, and children Amelie, Fin, and Leon, sat on the sidelines, unable to hold back their tears. When Kroos finally embraced them, he also cried out of happiness.
Earlier, both teams formed a lineup allowing Kroos to enter the field to a rousing standing ovation from the audience. As he made his way to his teammates, Kroos waved to the crowd, occasionally shooing away to maintain his humility during this memorable occasion.
The fans of Real Madrid made their feelings known before the game: In the Real section, a choreography with the message "Thank you, Legend" was displayed.
The term "legend" accurately describes Kroos' career at Real Madrid. He played 464 official games for Real, scored 28 goals, and assisted 98 times. Moreover, he earned 22 titles for the club, with four La Liga titles and four Champions League victories. Kroos is Germany's most successful footballer.
Two more tasks await Kroos before his career ends: On June 1st, he will face Real in the Champions League final against Dortmund. And with the German national team, he hopes to bring home the championship at the home European Championship (opening game on June 14th).
In the best-case scenario, more tearful moments will follow from a truly remarkable footballer...
