Dresden's temporary coach Heiko Scholz: - Emotional conversation following overlooked career advancement.
"The game's not over until it's no longer a mathematical possibility," said interim coach Heiko Scholz before the match. This is precisely what happened with Regensburg's 1:1 against Viktoria Köln, as they were four points away from securing third place in their final game.
Scholz wasn't holding back his criticism in an interview on Magenta Sport following their defeat. "We played a great game for nearly an hour and a half. But then we allowed ourselves to fall back and managed to win only by luck," he said.
The former pro (Dresden, Leverkusen, and others) pinpointed unforced turnovers and lost tackles as the cause for their struggles. It was clear once more that the team lacked the energy to maintain their intensity for the full 90 minutes.
"We haven't lost our promotion today. Now we need to focus on securing fourth place. It's crucial for us to be in the DFB Cup," explained Scholz. He then admitted, "Given our impressive first half of the season, it's disheartening how the second half panned out."
Emotions ran high towards the end of the press conference.
"Fans are amazing"
"I want to thank our fans one more time. It's incredible that 3,000 of them are showing up once again," said "Scholle," who became choked up with emotion when expressing these words.
Taking a moment to compose himself, the fan-favorite Scholz added, "At least we earned them three more points."
There's no questionthat Heiko Scholz feels a deep connectionto Dynamo Dresden. When asked about his future, the long-serving assistant coach, whose contract will expire at the end of the season, responded: "I feel so comfortable here. I would be thrilled if they decided to keep me."
It's undoubtedly his desire to remain with the team.
