The scheduled flight was delayed. Carolyn went for a pedicure and purchased a dress for the wedding. The salesperson wished her luck, to which she responded, "I'll need that." They intended to drop off her sister on Martha's Vineyard. The flight was eventually delayed until around 8 p.m. before crashing.

After four days, police divers found the wreckage of the plane. The bodies of John, Carolyn and their sister Lauren were still strapped into their seats.

The remains of the three passengers were found four days later. The crash was attributed to human error.
