Handball promotion involving used equipment secured - Emerging Global Celebrity Shines with Local Music Scene
Bietigheim is the second team to ascend to the Liqui Moly Handball Bundesliga after VfL Potsdam. They triumphed 41:29 (23:13) against the bottom team EHV Aue on Sunday, reinforcing their standing in the table. ASV Hamm, behind them, endured a 32:36 loss to TV Hüttenberg on Saturday, meaning they can no longer overtake Bietigheim on the final two second-division matchdays.
It's a tremendous triumph for the small town of 40,000 inhabitants, nestled near Stuttgart, populated by national goalkeeper Bernd Leno and others, such as Julian Schuster from Freiburg and Shindy, a standout player. Additionally, their esteemed coach, Iker Romero (43), was once one of the world's best handball players (1997-2015), with titles nearly as numerous as the Bietigheim railroad viaduct, the city's iconic 287-meter-long and 33-meter-high landmark. Romero amassed an impressive record, winning numerous Spanish championship and cup titles, the European Cup Winners' Cup, the 2005 World Championship, and twice claiming the Champions League with Barcelona before acquiring the DHB Cup and the EHF Cup with Füchse Berlin.
Handball: Former world star Iker Romero leads Bietigheim to Bundesliga promotion
Romero first cut his coaching teeth as an assistant coach for TSV Hannover-Burgdorf, against whom he caused a major stir this season. In October, second-division team Bietigheim overthrew Hannover-Burgdorf, a Eurocup participant, in the DHB Cup quarter-finals.
Nonetheless, the season ended on a sour note, as Bietigheim was beaten in the DHB Cup semi-finals by Romero's former club, Füchse Berlin. However, they dominated the league all season and were unbeatable.
Tom Wolf, their center player (29), topscored out of the gate against Aue with six goals. In the Dyn program "Schnelle Mitte," prior to their encounter with Aue, Wolf expressed, "I believe we will be well-prepared and resolute. We've talked all year about how we absolutely want to get promoted. That's why we constantly bear this pressure that we can't make any mistakes."
Romero and his small-town squad still have one minor goal unattained: Bietigheim has the potential to capture the second-division championship. With only three points separating them from Potsdam, the stakes couldn't be higher.
