Boxer Chukhadzhian in the P2M category - Emerging from a bomb shelter to participate in the World Cup.
During the commemoration of Bund Deutscher Berufsboxer's (BDB) 75th anniversary at Hotel Grand Elysée, Karen Chukhadzhian, a Ukrainian welterweight, beat Harry "Horrible" Scarff, an Englishman, in a blistering bout that ended in a close unanimous points decision. Chukhadzhian is the compulsory challenger for IBF World Champion Jaron Ennis from the United States.
From the fifth round onwards, Chukhadzhian had a wound on his eyebrow. In the last round, the 1.85-meter tall and unorthodox Wasserman/Sauerland pro Scarff looked shaky.
Former world champion Arthur Abraham (44) was ecstatic as he sat in the front row, imminently standing up and rushing to Chukhadzhian's corner during breaks in the action. "This fight was a delight to watch," Abraham responded. " They delivered excellent performances. It's always tight at this level."
Chukhadzhian, who has Armenian roots, primarily trained in Kiev. As the air raid siren sounded, they sought shelter in the gym's air-raid shelter, where Wladimir Klitschko (48) had conducted his training as a youngster.
About 500 visitors were present, including host Eugen Block, Senator Andy Grote, Sven Ottke, Darius Michalczewski, Jürgen Brähmer, Luan Krasniqi, and Ulli Wegner. Abraham said, "I miss boxing. It's always a special thrill for me. I cherish this sport."
Christian Morales, sports director of P2M, expressed satisfaction with Chukhadzhian's performance. "Karen dominated the middle rounds and proved his superiority again in the back. We're now aiming for the world championship."
Ennis, with a record of 31 wins and 28 knockouts, is the next rising star in the States. Morales had communicated with his Matchroom promotion a week prior to the event. Morales advised, "I'll call back on Monday. Let's see if we can reach an agreement. If not, we'll auction it off."
The promoter for Matchroom is Eddie Hearn (44) from England. With a TV partner (DAZN) and significantly more funds, the million-dollar fight is likely to occur in the United States at year-end.
Earlier, Simon Zachenhuber (25) bested Roberto Arriaza (34), a Nicaraguan super middleweight, in a skilled affair by points.
Former European champion Felix Langberg (32) secured victory in his first match after his defeat against Daniel Dietz (28) against Jakub Sosinski (34), a Pole. Sosinski quit after the fifth round owing to a seriously gushing cut.
German heavyweight champion Victor Jurk (24) encountered difficulty against Bosnian Fleischberg Mirko Tintor (37), and had to labor for all eight frames in his eighth professional match. The sparring partner of Oleksandr Usyk (37) ultimately triumphed safely on points, but his tentativeness prevented him from mounting any genuine pressure.
