Elvis returns to Las Vegas as hologram
Elvis Presley last performed in Las Vegas on December 12, 1976, eight months before his death. At least he did it in person. A new production is expected to return the king to the throne in the form of a hologram in late 2024 or early 2025.
Elvis Evolved is a collaboration between British immersive entertainment company Layered Reality and Authentic Brands Group, which owns the rights to Elvis’ image.
The piece promises to feature a life-size hologram of Elvis created by artificial intelligence assimilating thousands of Elvis photos and home videos. Layered Reality said in a statement that the hologram will "recreate the thrill of seeing Elvis live for a whole new generation of fans, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy."
In 1997, another production attempted to revive Elvis Presley by displaying his image on a giant digital screen behind his 1970s band members as they performed with his pre-recorded vocals.
