Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg's Joking Showdown Possibilities Are Slim in Reality
Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, two extremely wealthy individuals, keep suggesting that their hypothetical UFC-style cage match which was first brought up in June could possibly take place.
Musk, who owns X (previously Twitter), and Zuckerberg, the majority owner of Facebook, clashed through their respective social media platforms following Facebook's parent company, Meta, launching a Twitter rival called Threads. Musk, the wealthiest person on the planet with a net worth of approximately $232.5 billion, criticized Zuckerberg's Threads plans by mocking his followers, saying the entire population can't wait to be "exclusively under Zuck's thumb."
Musk hinted at his interest in a physical confrontation with Zuckerberg after a Twitter user told him to be mindful of Zuckerberg's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training, to which Musk responded, "I'm up for a cage match if he is."
Musk's joking proposition led to a back-and-forth altercation online and UFC President Dana White's involvement. White has suggested holding the billionaires' showdown in Las Vegas at the UFC Octagon, believing it would ultimately be the "biggest fight ever in the history of the world."
Musk, Zuck Discuss Streaming Platform
Musk recently reignited the debate about a potential physical confrontation by sharing that he's currently in the midst of training for the event. The SpaceX and Boring Company co-founder, CEO of Tesla, and Tesla's chief product architect, said he's "lifting weights throughout the day" in preparation for his fight with Zuckerberg.
Musk even teased that the fight will be broadcast on his X platform. He mentioned that proceeds from the event would go to veterans' charities.

Zuckerberg then reignited the clash of billionaires by criticizing Twitter's ability to handle heavy traffic, using Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' (R) announcement of his 2024 presidential campaign as an example. The event caused Twitter to crash. Zuckerberg questioned the choice of Twitter, saying, "Shouldn't we use a more reliable platform?"
Zuckerberg blamed Musk for slowing down the scheduling process of the match. "I'm ready today. I suggested Aug. 26 when he first challenged, but he hasn't confirmed. Not holding my breath. I love this sport and will continue competing with people who train no matter what happens here," Zuckerberg stated on his Threads account.
Limited Odds
US gaming regulators usually request a sanctioning body to control a fight before authorizing authorized sportsbooks to take action. In Nevada, boxing contests and UFC mixed martial arts fights are managed by the Nevada Athletic Commission.
However, an official request for the Musk-Zuck showdown, should it take place, hasn't been made to the Nevada Athletic Commission. Due to this, the vast majority of states are still not allowing licensed sportsbooks to accept bets on the conceptual match.
Despite this, foreign bookmakers with more lenient regulations for novelty events - such as Unibet in the UK - have Zuckerberg as the favorite at -250 (2/5) and Musk as the underdog at +175.
