Socialist parliamentarian Marco Böhme - Election campaign team assaulted at Lindenauer Market
Every Monday evening, state parliamentarian Marco Boehme (34) distributes food to the needy at the Lindenauer Market. This past Monday was no different, as he and his team set up their stand to serve potato soup in Leipzig's 'Küche für alle.' However, their night took a disturbing turn when an aggressive man approached them.
Marco Boehme (34): "The man came up to our table, where we were distributing potato soup in Leipzig's 'Küche für alle.' He made hateful comments about parties and used anti-Semitic slurs. Then he told us if we voted, we'd only vote for the AfD." After that, he attacked the helpers.
The assailant first attacked one of the victims (21) aggressively, and then set his sights on the other helper, kicking him until he was on the ground. Fortunately, the police arrived and put a stop to the attack.
The perpetrator managed to escape, but the police quickly launched a search for him in the vicinity of the Lindenauer Market.
A police spokesperson: "We're looking into a case of bodily harm."
Wanting to show they won't be intimidated, the victims are recovering, and Boehme intends to return next week and distribute soup again. "There's a high demand. The two victims also want to be there," he said.
Several witnesses captured the attack on video, which the police are currently analyzing to find the attacker.
Sadly, this latest incident follows a string of attacks on politicians in Saxony. Earlier this year, European MP Matthias Ecker (41, SPD) required surgery on his face after being assaulted by a group of young people in Dresden. The authorities are now On the lookout for the perpetrator in both incidents.
