Ed Sheeran crashes Las Vegas wedding to serenade newlyweds

His last-minute cancellation ruined the holiday for a large portion of the 40,000 people who were looking forward to seeing Ed Sheeran perform at Allegiant Stadium on Saturday.

But two hours before the show started, Sheeran gave two other tourists a better vacation during their last visit to Las Vegas. He stopped by to see Texas chiropractor Carter Lindenfeld and his fiancée Jordan getting married at Little White Wedding Chapel.

The bride and groom did not pay for the wedding package, which included a British pop star and four backup singers serenading them. But Sheeran's move proved to be prescient, as he soon became desperate for media to show that he had delighted, rather than disappointed, someone in Las Vegas.

"Is this what falling in love feels like?/This is magic," Sheeran sings while strumming her acoustic guitar. (Magical will be the opening track on Sheeran's seventh album, Autumn Variations, due out September 29.)

The room erupted in applause and the couple embraced Sheeran before being pronounced husband and wife and announcing their marriage with a kiss. Sheeran then signed the Lindenfelds' wedding certificate and announced, "I'm really happy to be your witness."

They also received eight tickets (for themselves and members of the wedding party) to Sheeran's upcoming concert at Allegiant Stadium.

Sheeran posted a video of the event on his Instagram account on Monday with the caption: "A bad wedding is magical."

Honestly, Carter's performance was less magical when Sheeran entered the room mid-song. The groom was like a man pretending to be surprised by a surprise party he had been told in secret a few weeks before.

It turns out that a Whitechapel representative had approached the couple two weeks earlier to ask if they could accept "an unknown celebrity" crashing their wedding as a PR stunt.

Initially they turned down the opportunity and it took some convincing. Persuasion may also be aimed at identifying the perpetrator.

Judge for yourself.

Sheeran (usually) likes surprises

In July, Sheeran happened to be handing out drinks at a Nashville karaoke bar and singing the Backstreet Boys' "I Want it That Way" to another newlywed couple. That same month, he made a surprise appearance at Wieners Circle, a Chicago hot dog stand known for abusing customers.

Sheeran was less than pleased with the surprise at Allegiant Stadium. His show was suddenly postponed when rubber tiles under the stage came loose, causing two sound towers to move a foot each overnight. Engineers were unable to rebuild the facility in time for the concert.

Less than 90 minutes before it was scheduled to start - with some fans reportedly passing out waiting in the triple-digit heat - Sheeran announced that his concert would have to be postponed.

All tickets for Saturday's canceled show will be honored on Saturday, October 28. The Lindenfelds were invited back and reportedly accepted the invitation.
