Playing Poker with Kompany - Eberl is in talks with a Yankee.

Bayern Munich are keen on snaffling up Vincent Kompany (38) as their next head coach. They've apparently reached a deal with the veteran Belgian, but the roadblock lies in the transfer fee for Kompany's current team, FC Burnley.

It could get costly!

The hitch is this: Kompany inked a hefty deal with Burnley that runs until 2028. Burnley viewed him as a long-term asset, so it's expected they'll ask for a hefty compensation sum when Bayern come knocking. Whispers suggest it could be as high as 20 million pounds (~23.5 million euros).

However, Bayern aren't quite willing to shell out that much. Rumors circulate they're only prepared to part with 10 million euros. There's speculation the two clubs might eventually find a happy medium.

Interestingly enough, Burnley's boss is Alan Pace (55), an American businessman. Back in 2020, his firm, ALK Capital, acquired 84% of Burnley's shares. Pace turned into chairman as a result of that takeover.

Pace boasts a strong background in finance and sports tech. Prior to his Burnley role, he served as interim president of MLS side Real Salt Lake and was also involved in investment banking on Wall Street.

To sum it up: Pace's well-versed in high-stakes dealings. Plus, he's not just the head honcho at Burnley, but also handles contracts and new signings. In this case, though, he's personally spearheading the back-and-forth with Bayern.

Also noteworthy: Pace's a religious fellow who's good friends with Kompany. He tweeted on Kompany's birthday on April 10 last year, "What a pleasure it is to know and work with such a great man and leader. Happy Birthday, Vince! I wish him nothing but the best." The close relationship between them could work to Bayern's advantage.

But here's the twist: Pace had big dreams for Kompany at Burnley and even defended him during difficult relegation times. He's been rumored to want compensation, with Bayern threatening to steal his friend Kompany away from him.
