Goalkeeper remains in position - Dynamo Dresden's Mesenhöler signs contract extension.
Last January saw the signing of a new goalkeeper due to an injury to the previous regular, Stefan Drljaca (to VfB Stuttgart), who has played in two games for the club, one in the Saxon Cup and another against Duisburg (4:0).
David Fischer, the managing director, expressed his praise for the new addition, "Daniel has fit right in with our team from the get-go and handled a difficult situation we had in the goalkeeper position earlier this year both on a professional and personal level." He adds, "He's a highly ambitious goalkeeper with enough experience, making him a great fit for our squad."
Simply put, Mesenhöler has embraced his role as the team's backup goalkeeper. Born in Engelskirchen, he said, "I know where I stand and can give 100% on and off the field." It's not just his positive mindset that earns him support, but also his upbeat nature and popularity among his teammates.
Accepting the role as alternate
For the upcoming season, he will again be subbing in for Tim Schreiber (from Saarbrücken) who has joined the team. Mesenhöler's response? "I'm excited for next season."
Before facing Erzgebirge Aue in the Saxony Cup final this Saturday (3.45 pm), he's set to be starting goalkeeper for his team. After a season with Dynamo Dresden that ended without being promoted, he hopes to at least take home the consolation title in Rudolf Harbig Stadium.
Mesenhöler's background includes being trained as a youth at 1. FC Köln, then moving to Union Berlin in 2016. His journey also included stints at MSV Duisburg, Victoria Köln, Heracles Almelo (Netherlands), and Halle's FC. He boasts 15 appearances as a goalkeeper for German youth national teams. Prior to joining Dresden, the keeper was without a club for half a year.
