Team competes in handball games. - Drux, captain of Füchse, envisions the next move for the entire team.
Paul Drux, captain of Füchse Berlin's handball team in the Bundesliga, views qualifying for the European League's Final Four as progress for both himself and the team. Even though the 29-year-old playmaker would've preferred making it to the Champions League the previous season, he considers this weekend's Final Four in Hamburg as "the next step for the club as a whole." He explained, "We didn't play all these matches in the European League just to take a coffee-break trip to Hamburg. Of course, we want to win the championship."
The second semi-final will feature SG Flensburg-Handewitt and Dinamo Bucharest. The final is scheduled for Sunday. "The bookies might see us and Flensburg slightly ahead," Drux expressed, "but Rhein-Neckar Löwen, for instance, consistently perform well in the European League, they had some low points in the local league. That's probably a few euros in the piggy bank, but any team can win in a Final Four like this."
After suffering a torn Achilles tendon that kept him benched for a long time, Drux watched last year's final victory from the sidelines, finding it "bitterly frustrating." Even though his return early this year, the national player hasn't regained peak form yet: "We have four more games left, so I'll still put my all into it. Whether I play or only motivate the others and offer tips doesn't matter to me." Captain Drux aims to lift the trophy, but he's not fussed about the role: "Achieving this goal together as a team is most important to me. It's not about personal things."
