There has been a 1500 case increase compared to last year. - Dramatic rise in instances of knife attacks

There were 8,951 instances of "stabbing attacks" in the category of severe and dangerous physical harm recorded in the reporting year 2023, making up 5.8% of all cases. This is an increase from the 8,160 cases (5.6%) in 2022. Meanwhile, robberies rose to 4,893 cases in 2023.

A "stabbing attack" involves the direct or imminent use of a knife against a person. Possessing a knife alone does not warrant recording.

Starting January 1, 2020, "stabbing attacks" have been recognized as a nationwide occurrence and are now included in the Police Criminal Statistics (PKS). Due to inadequate data in the first year of recording, there were no PKS evaluations on the trend of "stabbing attacks" at the federal level for the year 2020.

Alexander Hoffmann (49), Parliamentary Secretary of State for the CSU in the German Bundestag, expressed his disbelief: "Stabbing attacks have become part of the tragic reality in our country. Interior Minister Faeser is in disbelief over this matter." It's time for a hardline approach against Islamism in Germany, he stated, and called for an end to the "Multi-Culti-Consolations" (political correctness) of the Traffic Light coalition.
