DraftKings Wrigley Field sportsbook just days away from opening
The DraftKings sportsbook at Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, is scheduled to open to the public on June 27.
The retail sports betting operator is part of a 10-year, $100 million marketing agreement between the gaming company and Major League Baseball (MLB) clubs. Per MLB policy, brick-and-mortar sportsbooks are not allowed to be located in the ticket sales area of a stadium. DraftKings Sportsbook is located at Addison Street and Sheffield Avenue near Wrigley Field.
This year-round destination will initially open as a state-of-the-art sports bar and restaurant. “DraftKings will offer retail sports betting at a later date, subject to licensing and regulatory approval from the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB).” According to a statement from DraftKings.
Sportsbooks did not speculate on when venues would open. But DraftKings already has a license to accept bets in Illinois and is one of the leaders in the state by market share.
Wrigley Field sportsbook could be a winner
Approximately 90% of sports betting in the United States is conducted via computer or mobile phone. But it may be premature to write obituaries on easily accessible brick-and-mortar sports betting sites.
DraftKings at Wrigley Field might check that box. This year, the Cubs ranked 10th in attendance, and Wrigley Field is widely considered one of the game's cathedrals, drawing fans from across the country who just want to watch the game there.
Opened in 1914, Wrigley Field is the second-oldest Major League Baseball (MLB) stadium after Boston's Fenway Park, and it would be an understatement to say it is an icon of the sport. This is reflected in the Chicago venue's status as a National Historic Landmark.
"The building's exterior pays homage to the stadium's classic green steel elements that define its iconic aesthetic. A large portion of the facade is made of glass, creating an airy atmosphere and allowing views inside and outside the venue It’s unobstructed,” DraftKings said of the sportsbook.
Construction of the venue begins in March 2022, with Marquee Development and Pepper Construction partnering on the project.
Wrigley Sportsbook May Go Beyond Season
Starting in 2024, DraftKings Sportsbook at Wrigley Field will benefit from all 81 Cubs home games. However, the venue will not rely on Major League Baseball (MLB) to attract crowds.

"DraftKings Sportsbook at Wrigley Field is located at 1012 W. Addison St. and is open Monday through Thursday from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., "and are subject to change based on the schedule of events around the Wrigley Field campus," the gaming company said. "
