In 2024, no DFB striker surpassed their goal-scoring record. - Does Hack continue to aim for Nagelsmann through gunfire?

This Saturday (3:30 pm on Sky), Gladbach aims to lock in their spot in the league with a triumph against Frankfurt.

Their hopes rest primarily on Robin Hack (25), who has netted nine goals this year in the Bundesliga. He's become the top goal scorer in Germany since the beginning of 2024, surpassing all other offensive players.

Despite being tied with Stuttgart's international striker Deniz Undav (27) with nine goals in that span, Hack has a better rate, scoring every 103 minutes this year, compared to Undav's 127 minutes.

Could Hack secure a spot in the European Championship squad?

As a matter of fact, DFB coach Julian Nagelsmann (36) may nominate 26 players instead of the previously planned 23 professionals when the European Championship lineup is revealed next Thursday (May 16). Throughout history, there have always been unanticipated selections in major tournaments - like David Odonkor (40) for the 2006 World Cup or Hack's fellow teammate Christoph Kramer (33) for the 2014 World Cup.

So, is it possible that Nagelsmann will consider Hack's performance and shock everybody with a nomination?

In 2018, Hack (2nd from left) and Julian Nagelsmann (below) celebrated Hoffenheim's entry into the Champions League

You should know that Nagelsmann is quite familiar with Hack. Hack debuted in the Bundesliga and tallied his first league goal for TSG in 2017 under Nagelsmann's tenure as Hoffenheim manager.

In 2017, Hack declared: "I wasn't effortless back then. Julian Nagelsmann viewed me as a slipshod talent then - and he was correct. Perhaps I wasn't fully prepared in the past few years. However, I've advanced further, personally as well."

"My goal is to don the eagle on my chest"

Despite Hack's aspirations for a nomination this summer, if it doesn't work out, his dream remains intact.
