Do you think your job is hard? Try becoming Nevada's new online gaming commissioner
With UltiimatePoker.com's first day of legal online poker ending in Nevada - the first of America's fast-paced states to end (although New Jersey is gasping for breath right now, we're sure) - you can do the math I bet, la Vegas attorney John Moran Jr. was exhausted but relieved. He was the chief commissioner of the Silver State's efforts to bring interactive games to life and off the drawing board, and was the man who oversaw draft legislation for subsequent interstate agreements (most likely with California and New Jersey). At least for beginners. When Lewis and Clark moved there, being in such an unknown region of the Wild West was certainly not for the faint of heart.
Sandoval signs interstate law
As Nevada and New Jersey race to get closer to finalizing their bid to become the first in the U.S. to legalize online poker, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval secures passage of House Bill 114 Passed, Congress also passed the bill - approving the legislation that made internet gambling legal on this side of the law and finally allowed Nevada to sign players from other states in the U.S. - John Moran Jr. secured Everyone crosses correctly, and all I cross correctly.
Moran's job is to represent the governor in approving or rejecting online gaming agreements with other states. This has never been done before; talk about new territory. “When the Legislature passes a new policy, the Gaming Commission will provide the details through regulations,” said Peter Bernhard, chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission. “I typically designate a chief commissioner to work with the Gaming Control Board staff, The Attorney General’s Office and other commissioners collaborate to draft regulations that are reviewed by industry and public hearings.”
Here’s a quick summary of Moran’s job description. Hopefully he’ll have his liquor cabinet stocked with Jim Beam over the next few months.
“It’s common to have intergovernmental agreements with countries,” Moran said of his duties. "We have water and energy use agreements between the Colorado River Basin states and even an international agreement with Mexico. But this will set a precedent because this will be the first intergovernmental agreement on gambling."
You'd better start drinking, John.
