Do I have to pay taxes on my lottery winnings?
Lottery winnings do not have any tax implications since they are gained through luck. Tax liability only comes into play when the lottery prize is converted into income.
This can happen, for example, if you invest the money in financial assets or real estate after winning. In these scenarios, the resulting income is taxed as normal.
What types of lottery are there?
Generally, lottery games can be divided into active and passive ones. Active involves you choosing the numbers you hope to win with. Passive is when tickets containing a fixed number are allocated to you.
Eurojackpot is an example of an active lottery game.
