Bremen: A German city in focus. - Department charged with ensuring consumer rights in cannabis groups.
Starting in July, marijuana growing associations from Bremen can apply for a permit from the state's consumer protection department. This announcement was made in a press release on Tuesday. Once they receive the permit, they'll have to follow the rules for cultivation in the associations. Previously, the Cannabis Act, which has been in place since April, didn't mention which state-level authority would handle these associations. On Tuesday, the Bremen Senate passed a draft that determines the responsibility.
The consumer protection department will be responsible for prosecuting and punishing any administrative offenses related to the associations. On the other hand, the public order office in Bremen and the magistrate in Bremerhaven will deal with consumption offenses. Additionally, the police and public order officials in these areas have so-called information obligations when minors are caught smoking cannabis. The department is currently working on a list of penalties for these offenses.
