Affirmatively, the basketball world champion! - Dennis Schröder contributes to the action in the national league.

A basketball world champion swaggered into the clubhouse wearing a backpack and a duffel bag, seeking refuge in the bar area. Not long after, he made an appearance on the court, sporting jersey number 17 and even claimed a spot in the starting lineup! "I just want to remain a bit fit," Schröder shared with the Braunschweig Zeitung.

As directed by the coach, Gökhan Arikoglu, the superstar received a quick tactical rundown. And so, the game commenced. Schröder: "I'm meant to create a bit of mayhem on the left side upfront."

With this intention, Schröder continued to cause chaos on the court until the 62nd minute. At this time, the MVP from the World Cup finals was replaced. In order to stay clear of two-on-two encounters and avoid potential injuries, Schröder prudently kept his distance. Nevertheless, Bleckenstedt succumbed to a 1:5 defeat.

Why Dennis Schröder took to the pitch in the 6th league

The reason Schröder played with the amateurs is attributed to his brother-in-law.

For Bleckenstedt, midfielder Daniel Ziolo (27), Schröder's sister-in-law's partner, is a member of the team. Having spent his summers in his hometown of Braunschweig, Schröder had often watched his brother-in-law play. Fulfilling a long-standing dream, Schröder took to the field with Bleckenstedt: "I've always wanted to play alongside my brother-in-law."

Bleckenstedt had been plotting this secret surprise for some time. However, Schröder required an athlete's permit to participate in an official game.

*Schröder's focus on basketball will soon increase. As the skipper of the national team and the majority shareholder of BBL club Löwen Braunschweig, the hot stretch of Olympic preparation starts on July 6th in Cologne with a face-off against France.
