Demonstrators Pro-Israel on Las Vegas Strip Demand Liberation of Captives
An estimated crowd gathered in Las Vegas last night to demand the secure return of hostages who were abducted from southern Israel and are presently held captive by Hamas.
The "Bring Them Home Now!" protest occurred outside the Forum Shops at Caesars on the Las Vegas Strip, neighboring Caesars Palace.
Participants displayed Israeli and American flags and sung the Israeli national anthem, "Hatikvah," in a show of solidarity for the troubled land. Organizers also placed around 30 empty strollers on the pavement. In each stroller, there was a picture of a missing child who had been kidnapped.
"We are asking for their safe return right now, with no conditions," Ofra Etzion, Israeli American Council regional director, stated to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Hamas is thought to be detaining 239 hostages in an intricate network of tunnels in the Gaza Strip. Out of those detained, over half have passports from 25 distinct countries, including several Americans. These captives were taken from southern Israel during a massacre that occurred on October 7.
More than 1,400 victims lost their lives throughout this tragic day, with reports suggesting some were beheaded, sexually assaulted, set alight, or killed in the presence of their relatives.
Lately, family members of the captives have supported the notion of an exchange involving Hamas members presently jailed in Israel.
No Swap for Prisoners
The Israeli government as well as many others appear to turn down this suggestion.
"The whole exchange idea, that has been suggested, of trading thousands of terrorists for the life of just a single Jew, I think is incorrect," Dafna Noury of Las Vegas commented at the rally. "In case you're going to trade for hostages, how do you prevent this from happening again until you eliminate Hamas?" Las Vegas resident Marjie Shapiro furthermore questioned. "And can you truly trust Hamas?"
To date, only four of the kidnapped hostages have been discharged by Hamas.
Israeli military forces are currently conducting assaults on the Gaza Strip to eliminate Hamas commanders and destroy their infrastructure. Our conflict has resulted in many casualties and injuries on both sides and has derailed the ability of humanitarian organizations to bring aid to Gaza residents.
As events unfold, acts of violence and threats of violence against Jews have surfaced in other parts of the world, including the U.S.
