Delaware Park Casino renovations expected to be completed this fall

Delaware Park Casino & Racing in Stanton, Delaware, just southwest of the state capital of Wilmington, is undergoing a $10 million renovation of the racetrack’s casino floor.

An overhaul of Delaware Park Casino's main gaming area, announced last month, will bring high-end baccarat and blackjack pools, more pod-style slot machine cabinet configurations and new food and beverage offerings.

Delaware Park found new owners in November 2021 after nearly four decades of ownership by the Rickman family. The speedway was sold to Canadian private equity firms Clairvest Group and Rubico Gaming for more than $90 million. Thomas Benninger, a former Caesars Entertainment board member who controls Rubico Gaming, founded private investment and advisory firm Global Leverged Capital.

The Rickman family retains ownership of White Earth Country Club, formerly part of the Delaware Park complex.

The new owner of the Lacino hired casino veteran Terry Glebocki in March to manage the hotel. The former CEO of Ocean Casino Resort has turned around the fortunes of Atlantic City hotels and now plans to do the same with the hotels she manages in northern Delaware.

need to be updated

The $10 million renovation budget is primarily intended to modernize the casino with new slot machines and updated amenities, Delaware Park Ownership Group said in a release. The project included custom chandeliers and lighting, play furniture, rugs, vaulted ceilings and murals.

The casino's VIP bar will also be expanded. The renovations will bring Las Vegas and Atlantic City casino area guests closer to home, said Delaware Park President and General Manager Glebocki.

Renovations will bring a new look and future to Delaware Park Casino and Racetrack, bringing a touch of Las Vegas and Atlantic City to Delaware. ” said Glebocki. “Our goal is to make our casino a premier destination in the region by making the hotel more modern and comfortable for existing guests and attracting new audiences. "

Delaware Park began a $10 million renovation last month that is expected to be completed this fall. The hotel currently has about 1,900 slot machines and 40 gaming tables, as well as a poker room. The casino also offers sports betting offers.

The slot machines at Delaware's three brick-and-mortar casinos are technically video lottery terminals that use simulated lottery games to determine the winning and losing of spins. Three racing clubs, Bally's Dover and Harrington Raceway & Casino, operate the games on behalf of the Delaware Lottery.

Racetracks receive about 44 percent of the total revenue generated by the machines. The state collects 38%, of which 11% goes to the racing fund and the remaining 8% goes to supplier fees.

The racetrack also shares 15 percent of table games winnings with the state lottery. Another 5% is used to track the wallet.

Market Leader

Delaware Park Casino is the No. 1 casino in the state based on gross gaming revenue (GGR).

With one month left in the state's fiscal year 2023, Delaware Parks has generated more than $148.8 million in GGR from its VLTs and approximately $61.2 million in revenue from its gaming tables. Total transportation volume is approximately $210 million. Bally's Dover's GGR for slot machines and table games in the same 11 months was approximately $198.1 million, while Harrington's GGR totaled $124.2 million.

Rhode Island-based Bally's acquired the course in 2019 and has since closed the gap on Delaware Park.
