Workforce market - Decline in Unemployment Rates Observed in Saxony-Anhalt Region
Unemployment in Saxony-Anhalt saw a small decrease in April, with the Federal Employment Agency in Halle revealing that approximately 84,100 people were unemployed during this period. This is around 1,500 fewer individuals than in March, leading to a 0.1-point reduction in the unemployment rate to 7.7 percent.
The same time last year, the unemployment rate stood at 7.6 percent. The agency's statistics were calculated using data up to April 15, with 6,000 people joining the unemployment pool last month, mainly in the trade/maintenance/repair of motor vehicles industry (852).
The fall in the unemployment rate in Saxony-Anhalt is attributed to the seasonal revival, explained Markus Behrens, the head of the regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency for Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. "[The 1,500 drop] might seem insignificant, but it's a positive trend given the subdued economic atmosphere," Behrens said. A smaller decline in unemployment is predicted for the subsequent months.
Although the amount of long-term unemployed decreased slightly in April as compared to the previous month, approximately 32,400 individuals were deemed to have been jobless for over a year. Compared to March, there was a marginal drop of around 100 individuals, while the number of long-term unemployed was also lower a year ago by nearly 2,200. In April, more than 3,300 new job vacancies were opened in Saxony-Anhalt, which is fewer than the previous month and equal to the same month last year.
