Violent street fight in Leipzig - Deception involving a machete

In Leipzig, a group of men engage in a violent brawl caught on camera in a short video that gained popularity on messaging platform X (previously Twitter). The footage shows the men punching, kicking, and headbutting each other.

The most intense part of this one-minute clip involves a man wearing a black shirt, who takes out a machete and goes after his opponent. With the sword in hand, he hovers over his rival, striking him with the dull side of it. As a result, the aggressor and his target end up injured, both aged 26.

The reason for using the blunt side of the machete

The authorities are looking into this incident and scrutinizing the video. Onlookers wonder: "Why does the man attack with the blunter back of the machete instead of the sharp blade?"

The investigator expands: "That's why it seems that machetes are still being utilized, but now only with the dull sides. Sometimes these swords are even drawn across the ground as a threat, creating a loud clinking sound to intimidate or silence the opponent."

A particularly brutal scene from the one-and-a-half-minute video: The opponent crouches on the street (l.), the man in the black T-shirt strikes him with the blunt side of the machete

The infamous Eisenbahnstraße is designated a "weapons ban zone"

The Eisenbahnstraße is a notorious area where individuals of various ethnicities reside. It's known for its persistent criminal activities, including bloody confrontations. To fight this, the city declared this street a "weapons ban zone" in 2018. This measure made it illegal to carry firearms, knives, pepper spray dispensers, and other dangerous objects within a 70 soccer field-sized area.

In 2021, however, the Saxony Higher Administrative Court overturned this decree, stating that the Ministry of the Interior's police regulation banning the carrying of hazardous objects around Eisenbahnstraße was unlawful (Ref.: 6 C 22/19).

Consequently, the Leipzig City Council decided to revoke the weapons ban zone.
