Hamburg: A German city facing challenges - Deceivers Apprehended for Swindling Funds from Financial Institutions
Probing conducted by LKA 19 uncovered a gang of miscreants comprising of numerous individuals who were suspected of intentionally monitoring individuals in proximity to banks that had withdrawn substantial sums of money.
These miscreants usually leased automobiles and traveled across Germany. In Hamburg, two incidents transpired in the Wandsbek area last December and February.
During one case, the culprits soaked the victim's attire with liquids when he exited the bank, creating a diversion to take thousands of euros. In a separate instance, they manipulated the wheels of a bank customer's car, making him believe it had broken down, causing him to be inattentive and consequently, he lost several thousands of euros.
LKA 19's probing displayed that similar mishaps had occurred in other federal states (Nordrhein-Westfalen, Hessen, Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein). Suspicious connections are at present being looked into. Informed by the data available from the two incidents in Hamburg, the investigators petitioned the Hamburger Staatsanwaltschaft for detention warrants and search warrants.
Yesterday, two warrants for apprehending the 46 and 57-year-olds and six warrants for seizing various properties in Hamburg were executed with the assistance of LKA's special task forces, the LKA from the Wandsbek region, and the riot police force. The officers seized an extensive amount of evidence in the execution procedure. The review and inquiry are continuous.
