International Ice Hockey Tournament - DEB team composed of NHL players, joined by five polar bears and an accomplished coach

Germany, the second place in last year's World Championship, is getting ready for the upcoming events from May 10-26 in the Czech Republic. They'll be bringing in three significant players from the North American professional NHL league: Philipp Grubauer (Seattle), JJ Peterka (Buffalo), and Nico Sturm (San José).

The German coach, Harold Kreis, stated, "We're now focusing on selecting the final squad for the World Championship." They're also hoping to have defenceman Maksymilian Szuber from the AHL. He is currently participating there.

Additionally, Lukas Kälble from Fischtown Pinguins is expected to join the team on Friday. And on Sunday, Kai Wissmann, Jonas Müller, Tobias Eder, Leonhard Pföderl, and Frederik Tiffels from the champions Eisbären Berlin will arrive. However, Matthias Plachta (Adler Mannheim) and goalkeeper Florian Bugl (Straubing Tigers) are no longer part of the team.

Berlin's coach, Serge Aubin, will bring his knowledge and experience to help them. Alexander Sulzer, the co-coach of Fischtown Penguins, will also be part of the team. And Kalbris stated, "We're adding two more coaches whose experience and expertise we greatly value. Their qualities will further enhance our coaching team's work."

The DEB team will play two more test games before the tournament starts. On Saturday (2 p.m./MagentaSport) in Wolfsburg, they'll face France, followed by an encounter against France in Weißwasser two days later (7.30 p.m./MagentaSport). The team will face Slovakia in the World Championship opener on May 10 in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
