David Koechner, an actor-comedian, features in the marketing campaign for Harrah's Cherokee Casinos.
Harrah's Cherokee Casinos in Cherokee and Murphy, North Carolina, have chosen actor and comedian David Koechner to spearhead a new regional advertising campaign. The program is aimed at showcasing the lively atmosphere and entertaining activities awaiting visitors at these two tribal resorts.
Koechner, now known as the "VP of Party," will star in the cross-platform advertising campaign promoting the two casinos owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Caesars Entertainment operates the resorts on their behalf.
The San Diego-based advertising agency 62Above recently announced that Koechner is now the celebrity spokesperson for the tribal casinos. The campaign will depict him as a comical, fictional casino employee focused on ensuring that guests have a great time during their stay.
62Above Creative Director Erik Dargitz explained that the campaign is an extension of Harrah's Cherokee Casinos' "Put On Your Party Hat" campaign, which has "become part of the culture" at the resorts.
Office Star Set to Party Hard
Koechner has appeared in over 120 movies and TV shows, with his most notable roles as Todd Packer on The Office and Champ King in the Anchorman movies.
As the "VP of Party," Koechner will introduce viewers to what Harrah's Cherokee Casinos have to offer. He'll highlight casino floors, numerous restaurants, bars, nightlife, and other forms of entertainment. The Harrah's Cherokee Casinos consist of Harrah's Cherokee in Cherokee and Harrah's Cherokee Valley River in Murphy.
The television commercial opens with Koechner in character, sitting at a desk with the nameplate "VP of Party." Beginning August 2, Harrah's Cherokee guests will have the opportunity to take shareable pictures at the desk using the same props as Koechner, such as a party hat, disco ball, and "World's Best Party" mug.
According to the agency release, "Guests will be able to promote themselves as the new VP of Party with eccentric props and a backdrop of the casino."
"We're thrilled to have David Koechner as the face of our new campaign spanning TV ads, print ads, and digital content that invites visitors to join the party," said Brian Saunooke, regional vice president of marketing at Harrah's Cherokee Casinos. "His humorous personality and wit complement Harrah's Cherokee's vibrant and lively energy."
The integrated campaign is running on all platforms, including television, digital, social media, and billboards in North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee.
Competition on the Horizon
The Harrah's Cherokee Casinos are facing increased competition with the opening of temporary casinos in Southern Virginia. Hard Rock launched a temporary casino in Bristol, Virginia, in July 2022, and Caesars Entertainment opened an interim casino space in Danville this past May.
Hard Rock International, owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, is investing $400 million in constructing a permanent resort named Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol. The resort is being built at the former Bristol Mall.
Caesars is investing $650 million to build Caesars Virginia in Danville.
Both properties are projected to draw some gaming revenue from the Harrah's Cherokee Casinos. Harrah's Cherokee is around 150 miles, or a 2.5-hour drive, from Bristol, while Danville is considerably farther at approximately four hours or 260 miles.
