Daniel Jones, quarterback for the New York Giants, suffers a season-ending injury.

The New York Giants lost their starting quarterback, Daniel Jones, to a season-ending knee injury in their blowout loss against the Las Vegas Raiders. Jones had to undergo an MRI on Monday and it confirmed a torn ACL in his right knee. He will have surgery and won't play for the rest of the season.

This injury comes after Jones missed three games due to a neck injury that he sustained in Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins. In Week 9, Jones played against the Raiders but had to leave the game in the second quarter because of a noncontact knee injury. He completed 4-of-9 passes for 25 yards and added nine rushing yards on two attempts. He was also sacked twice.

Jones had a stellar season in 2022, leading the Giants to a playoff berth and a first-round victory against the Minnesota Vikings, but some fans still didn't believe he's worth the huge pay raise he received in his contract extension. He struggled this season, signing a four-year extension worth $160 million in the offseason. He only completed two touchdown passes and was picked off six times in six games. The offensive line played a major role in his struggles, as they allowed him to be sacked 26 times in the first five games of the season.

Tyrod Taylor played as a replacement for Jones until he suffered a serious rib injury against the New York Jets in Week 8. The Giants put Taylor on the IR, so he won't return until after their bye week in Week 13.

Tommy DeVito, an undrafted rookie from Illinois, took Jones' place for the last two games. In their loss to the Jets in Week 8, he only had negative one yard of passing. However, he performed much better in their loss to the Raiders, completing 75% of his passes for 175 yards. He threw a touchdown in garbage time and also had two interceptions, but he was sacked six times. DeVito is set to start in Week 10 against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Giants recently signed Matt Barkley to their practice squad, but he wasn't active against the Raiders. Barkley, a former USC quarterback, was a fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013. He has a 2-5 record as a starter and a 1-5 record with the Chicago Bears in 2016. He last won a game in 2018 with the Buffalo Bills. Throughout his career, Barkley completed 59.7% of his passes with eight touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

The Giants' recent record, now 2-7, has them in contention for the #1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft alongside a few other teams. Caleb Williams, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner from USC, is the betting favorite to be the top pick. They have two challenging away games coming up against the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Commanders. They then host the New England Patriots and three other home games against the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams, and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Even though the Cowboys are a huge favorite next Sunday against the Giants, the Giants have a poor passing game. They're the lowest-scoring team in the NFL, averaging only 11.2 points per game. This season, the points total hasn't gone over just once. The under is the more profitable bet at 8-1. The Giants' total offense is also the worst in the NFL at 268.9 yards per game. And this season, running back Saquon Barkley missed multiple games because of a high ankle sprain.
