Daniel Colman Continues to Dominate in the World of Poker with His Win at Alpha8 Series

Last year, Daniel Colman was primarily an online poker player using the monikers "mrGR33N13" and "riyyc225" and had not made a significant impact in the live circuit. He had racked up a respectable $310,699 in live tournaments since 2008. For the initial eleven months of 2013, Colman did not cash in a single live tournament, possibly because he was focused on online hyper-turbo tournaments. He became the first player ever to win $1,000,000 in hyper-turbo tournaments in a year - all within nine months.

Next, Colman shifted his focus to live tournaments, particularly the partypoker Premier League VI in Khanawake. The speedy format was perfect for him due to his specialty in turbo games. He finished third in this event for $194,000. Following that, he cashed in a PCA High Roller in the Bahamas before coming out on top in the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo. Here, he walked away with a considerable sum of $2,127,398.

He next tackled the World Series of Poker, where his performances were unimpressive at first. But a few tournaments were on the horizon that would skyrocket his winnings. The Big One for One Drop, the second-richest poker tournament in history, saw Colman claim the top spot, defeating Daniel Negreanu in the final. This victory left him pocketing a staggering $15.3 million.

Colman's rollercoaster ride did not stop there. Two weeks later, he participated in the Aria $100k Super High Roller, bagging $796,821 in third place. A month afterward, he placed second at the EPT Barcelona, pocketing $1,118,479. Just three weeks later, Colman stood atop the podium at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, adding another $1,446,710 to his now massive, fiery pile of money.

Adding victories in the WPT Alpha8 event in London, Colman's record showed that he'd earned more live tournament earnings in twelve months than Phil Ivey has earned in his entire live tournament career, according to the Hendon Mob database. Thanks to four first-place finishes and nine final tables, such a streak is a historical phenomenon in poker, with only a few players having exceeded Colman's earnings. However, it is worth noting that the One Drop raised both Daniel Negreanu and Antonio Esfandiari's totals.

Colman's poker demeanor has been described as an "anti-hero" because of his unimpressive reactions to his huge wins and his disinterest in talking to the media. In fact, his video of him winning the One Drop went viral due to his visible irritation at claiming $15 million.
