Following a break in the femoral neck bone region. - Dagmar Koller now using a wheelchair.
After a trip and break in her hip towards the year's end, Dagmar Koller required hospitalization and is now restricted to a wheelchair. The journey to recovery is taxing and gradual.
She further recounts: "I was in much pain, but I'm good now. I had been dancing throughout my life. Perhaps this training is aiding me today."
Per Koller, the wheelchair is the least of her concerns: "I can traverse anywhere in it!" To guarantee that matters proceed favorably, Dagmar Koller communicates frequently with a physiotherapist, undertakes occupational therapy, and is cared for round-the-clock by a nurse and her family members.
Oftentimes, she even strums the piano. Although her hands still ache sporadically as a result of the accident. "I had been rather skilled at the piano, but since my mother passed away, no one encouraged me to rehearse. I would genuinely appreciate being able to play better."
Notwithstanding, she has concluded her professional journey. "I no longer wish to be onstage anymore. I've toiled enough. If a lucrative proposal ever materialized again, I'd contemplate it, but I'm really delighted that I can manage my time at will."
In the future, she yearns to travel more between her homes in Vienna and Portugal, where she fondly reminisced with her husband. The sea helps her well-being and mood, and her wheelchair-friendly house there has also been modified.
Where does Dagmar Koller harness her courage from? "I've always been like this! Giving up is not a choice for me. I'm not a lady who'd sit in a gloomy corner of life and submit to her destiny. I'm not Grace Kelly after all..."
Celebrating her 85th birthday in August, Dagmar Koller voices: "Am I actually that old already? Astonishing, isn't it?" Perhaps then, she'll be able to dance again - at least that's a wish of hers.
