In competitions held in Cologne, - Cyclist's collision with a senior leaves rollator airborne
Occasionally, incidents happen in cycling events due to the close proximity of spectators and fans. However, it's not often that bystanders are directly involved. This was the case during the annual "Rund um Köln" cycling classic on Sunday.
A pack of cyclists were cycling across a zebra crossing when a senior woman was also making her way across. She was using a walker to help her get around, and she seemed unaware of the speedy cyclists. By the time she spotted them, it was already too late to avoid a collision.
The cyclists had to quickly evade the woman, which caused some of them to come to a sudden halt. Thankfully, the woman wasn't harmed in any way. But her walker didn't fare as well – one of the cyclists collided with it, causing it to be dragged along for a few meters.
Though the woman remained safe and unharmed, as per the televised footage of the event, her walker appeared to be completely fine as well.
"Rund um Köln" is a cycling tradition that's been around for a staggering 106 years. In this event, both professional cyclists race and amateur "Jedermann" participants compete in separate races throughout the city of Cologne.
