German Parliament Member Stefinger - CSUnopoliticianadmits:Ihavesufferedcancer
On Tuesday, Stefinger, a representative from Munich, announced on social media that he's been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and will be undergoing inpatient treatment soon. He anticipates needing to take it easy for a few weeks but looks forward to getting back to his responsibilities with renewed energy.
Thyroid cancer isn't incredibly common, and it's typically pretty treatable in young individuals if discovered early.
Stefinger received an outpouring of support from his online followers, including his political adversaries. Martin Huber (46), CSU General Secretary, expressed, "I wish you a lot of strength." Markus Rinderspacher (54), Vice President of the Bavarian state parliament, hoped for "a full recovery and am looking forward to seeing you again at our shared events in the district."
Nicole Gohlke (46), an MP from Munich elected to the German parliament, encouraged Stefinger, wishing for "the least possible complications." Manfred Weber (51), the CSU's lead candidate in the European elections, offered "all the best."
Stefinger has been representing Munich-Bogenhausen in parliament since 2013. His sudden announcement came as a shock to many. Most recently, he attended an event in his constituency featuring party chairman Markus Söder (57).
