16-year-old prodigy arrives at Werder using a helicopter. - Criticism towards Werner following exhibitionist video
Karim Coulibaly, a newly signed player at Werder, arrived via helicopter for his contract signing. The footage was released through his and his advisors' channels. Both professional manager Clemens Fritz and managing director Frank Baumann were also featured during contract negotiations.
The grandiose spectacle didn't sit well with the club, although no official reprimand was given. behind-the-scenes discussions have been held with Coulibaly's advisors about the misstep. As coach Ole Werner confirms, "There's an ongoing conversation with the club and the advisors about the entire issue."
Werner's criticism, however, is not directed at the 16-year-old Coulibaly but at his team of advisors.
Ole Werner's Views on Werder's Hubi-Bubi
Werder's coach, Ole Werner, is now clear: "It's definitely not standard procedure. I'm not sure we can blame the 16-year-old boy himself, though. It's more about his entourage. Personally, when I was 16 and the things I listened to…"
Werner didn't show up to important meetings in a helicopter or with a €2,450 jacket like Coulibaly.
However, it's certain that the gifted central defender will still be given a chance in spite of his controversial entrance.
Werner: "It's a shame for the kid. The situation wasn't ideal. Nonetheless, I'll remain open-minded towards the player and give him the opportunity to demonstrate his talent on the pitch and in the locker room."
