Law enforcement in Görlitz set up a roadblock at Großhennersdorf, mere kilometers from the Polish border. As they inspected another vehicle, a white Golf Kombi sped past the checkpoint, revealing a motorcycle jutting out from the open boot.
Police chase leads to a collision
Multiple police cruisers quickly took to the chase. A short while later, the motorcycle fell onto the road in Bernstadt, eight kilometers ahead. The authorities are unsure whether the Golf passengers discarded the motorcycle to evade capture or simply to flee at a faster pace.
The pursuit continued towards the border with Poland. In Hagenwerder, a patrol car intercepted the Golf, leading to severe damage for both vehicles. It was discovered that the stolen motorcycle had been taken from Herrnhut (Saxony), near the checkpoint, just moments before.
The two individuals in the Golf, who are Polish nationals (aged 26 and 36), were detained by the authorities. The total cost of the property damage is estimated at approximately 30,000 euros.
