UEFA fully unhinged - Covert bus driver training held at Wembley Stadium.
This Saturday, at 9 pm, the Wembley Stadium in London will witness the biggest club football event of the season. Over 450 million people around the globe are expected to tune in as Borussia Dortmund takes on Real Madrid in the Champions League final. The match will be aired in over 220 countries.
Obviously, UEFA, the organizers of the event, are leaving no stone unturned. But their methods have left many in Madrid and Dortmund amused.
UEFA - The Crazy Organizer! Secret Bus Driver Training at Wembley
The well-known Dortmund bus driver, Christian Schulz (55), had to practice driving the teams into the stadium at Wembley.
Sources who are employed as stewards at Wembley Stadium report that the bus drivers had to walk a distance of 500 meters within the stadium first. They were briefed by a UEFA delegation about the unique features and potential hazards.
After the foot tour, the main practice was behind the wheel. There was a twist to this - golf carts were driven in front of the team buses.
The drivers of these golf carts were responsible for ensuring the buses did not exceed the 5 km/h speed limit permitted within the stadium. To monitor this, a traffic light man was installed on the other side of the carts. If the bus driver exceeded the 5 km/h speed, the light would turn red. If the speed was maintained, it would glow green consistently.
But that's not the only detail Schulz and his Madridian counterparts had to pay attention to: They also practiced parking. And this meant that the buses had to be parked at their arrival point on Saturday in a way that the players could be captured perfectly by the installed cameras during their arrival. This required utmost precision.
It's not only the professionals from Real Madrid and Dortmund under immense pressure - the bus drivers are as well! [#]
