Epileptic Fit Triggered by Accusation - Courtroom incident involves suspected child molester
A 47-year-old man named Gabor H. from Dresden is facing charges for repeatedly sexually abusing his 12-year-old son seven years ago. Allegedly, the boy was given a piece of wood to bite on to reduce the pain during the abuse. This is being considered a "severe case of sexual abuse."
8:30 am at Dresden District Court: Despite the serious allegations, Gabor H., a welfare recipient, attends the trial without being held in custody.
Abuse at Home
In 2010, the parents separated. From 2016 to 2017, the son often visited his father at his apartment in Dresden. Prosecutor Bettina Ball (54) stated that the father "summoned the victim under a false premise." She further added that "at least eight incidents of severe abuse" took place during these visits.
During these incidents, the victim experienced "great pain." Ball continued by saying that Gabor H. observed this and provided his son with a piece of wood to alleviate the pain.
Health Scare During Trial
Following the indictment, Gabor H. suffered an epileptic seizure, causing him to fall from his chair at the defendant's bench to the ground. Justice officials, a notary, and paramedics rushed to aid him. The trial was temporarily halted and resumed at a later time.
Defendant Disputes Claims
Gabor H. denies the allegations. In response to a question from the prosecutor, he stated that his mother believed his ex-wife brainwashed their son.
The presiding judge, Rudiger Baumann (47), played a video of the victim's police interrogation. The young man admitted to the abuse when he was 17 years old, but severed all contact with his father long ago.
The defense attorney, on behalf of Gabor H., requested that he not have to watch the testimony. She was concerned that it might trigger another epileptic seizure. However, the court declined for legal reasons. Since the details of the abuse are quite graphic and degrading, Judge Baumann frequently expelled the public from the courtroom.
Verdict Due in June
The court is set to deliver a verdict on June 20th.
