An exciting story is circulating. - Could the DHB appoint a gymnast as their sports director?
The DHB is set to lose two of its board members at the end of the year: Benjamin Chatton (handling finance and legal matters) and Axel Kromer (overseeing sports. This has sparked the debate about who will replace them.
Should the DHB choose a gymnast for the sports board?
The resignation of Chatton is considered the biggest blow to the handball community. Kromer's exit became clear when he pushed for a swift decision regarding the extension of his expiring contract at the Federal Council in Bremen. This came as a surprise to him, but not to many in German handball - the association decided against an extension.
Now, the largest handball governing body in the world has a lot of work ahead. Not only will two new board member roles need to be filled by 2025, but they also need to hire a full-time national team manager. All of this is happening during what is being called the "decade of handball."
