Past national soccer coach joins FC Barcelona. - Could a previous Bayern player assume the role of Flick's assistant coach?
Camp Nou witnesses a fresh start.
The Spanish publication AS claims that Flick will have a former Bayern star as his aide: Thiago Alcantara (33)! He might just be the seamless bridge between the coaching team and the athletes.
Flick and Thiago have a history together from their time at FC Bayern, where they garnered the Champions League in 2020 together. Furthermore, Thiago has been a part of the renowned Barcelona academy "La Masia" and thus possesses an in-depth understanding of the Catalan outfit.
As per AS, Barcelona has interrogated Thiago about his post-season plans. His exit from Liverpool is inevitable following four years; his contract probably won't be renewed. However, Barcelona isn't terribly optimistic about this development as it appears Thiago's sporting career is still ongoing.
Besides Thiago, the names of Marc Barta (33), Javi Martinez (35), and Ivan Rakitic (36) are rumored to be on the Sporting Director's table.
Javi Martinez, who's still plying in Qatar, faces the obstacle of not having ever represented Barcelona. Conversely, Barta's German language proficiency has been questionable since his tenure in Dortmund. Rakitic, though, appears to be the underdog.
The question remains: Who will be Flick's "Co," joining Barcelona...?
