Cosmopolitan Loyalty Program Joining MGM Rewards on July 30
More than two years after MGM Resorts International purchased the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas, the glitzy Strip venue’s Identity Membership & Rewards program will convert to MGM Rewards on July 30.
MGM reached a deal in September 2021 to purchase Cosmopolitan’s rights for $1.6 billion from private equity firm Blackstone. Initially, it was hoped that Identity would transition to MGM Rewards in February, but that effort was postponed. Speculation surfaced that some of the delays were attributable to the cybersecurity breach that hampered MGM’s domestic operations last September. MGM has bonuses planned for Identity members.
All of your Identity Tier Points earned July 30, 2023 – July 29, 2024, at The Cosmopolitan will be DOUBLED and will be converted into MGM Rewards Tier Credits as of July 29, 2024,” according to the operator. “Table Games Points based on your Identity table play from July 30, 2023 – July 29, 2024 will also be added to your MGM Rewards account as bonus Tier Credits.”
Tier credits accrued via Identity tier points and table games play will be combined with customers’ existing MGM Rewards tier status to determine their status through January 31, 2026. MGM Rewards has five tier levels, including Sapphire, Pearl, Gold, Platinum, and NOIR, which is an invitation-only tier.
Ins and Outs of Identity Move to MGM Rewards
Among the various casino rewards programs — and there are plenty — there isn’t a lot of uniformity in terms of how points and tier credits are accumulated and each operator uses different lingo that points-enthused customers need to be aware.
That’s true in the case of the Identity move to MGM Rewards. One of the big things Cosmopolitan bettors should note is the term “tier points” they grew accustomed to at the venue is known as “tier credits” under MGM Rewards. Tier status timing is another issue to be aware of.
“MGM Rewards’ Tier Status Earning Year starts January 1 and ends December 31. During that time, earn Tier Credits to determine Tier Status for the current and following Tier Status Benefit Year, which runs February 1 to January 31,” noted MGM. “Tier Credits reset to zero annually on January 1.”
Another terminology change is that the Identity Points Cosmopolitan clients earned by playing slots, video poker, and other gaming machines are known as Slot Dollars under MGM Rewards.
MGM Rewards Expands Identity Earning Opportunities
While changes to casino rewards programs are often met with criticism, one clear benefit of Identity converting to MGM Rewards is that frequent guests of the Cosmopolitan will have more avenues for earning points and tier credits.
MGM customers can accrue points and tier credits at more than 20 Strip and regional casinos across the US and on the BetMGM app. MGM Rewards members can also earn redeemable points on “dining and hotel spend, including entertainment, spa experiences, retail and more,” according to the gaming company.
Ittakes 25,000 tier credits to get bumped to Pearl. From there, 75,000 points are needed to move to Gold, and Platinum requires 200,000 tier credits.
After the purchase of Cosmopolitan's rights by MGM Resorts International, the casino's rewards program will transition to MGM Rewards on July 30. This transition was initially planned for February, but was delayed due to various factors. (casino, news)
