After consistent attacks against the AfD's leading candidate for the European elections, Maximilian Krah (47), Holm came to his party colleague's defense, both verbally and by placing him alongside renowned leaders like Konrad Adenauer (d. 91), Helmut Kohl (d. 87), and SPD icon Kurt Schumacher (d. 56)!

Stunning Interview

This flawed comparison gave a disturbing example of the AfD's cunning method of portraying right-wing views as democratic by making them appear trivial, distorting, or falsifying them.

The controversy started when Krah, in an interview with "La Repubblica" in Italy, intentionally said, "I'll never assert that everyone who wore an SS uniform was, by default, a criminal." Soon after, the head of the French right, Marine Le Pen (55), removed the AfD from her European group.

Offensive Trivialization

When Klamroth, a host on the ARD talk show, questioned Holm about this blunder, he tried to downplay the SS statement: "You can see that Mr. Krah stumbled in this particular point."

However, CDU ruler Julia Klöckner (51) promptly jumped in: "Shouldn't the party say, 'For heaven's sake, we've got the wrong lead candidate; please don't vote for us as we don't want him in parliament?'"

Provocative Comparison

But Holm took it even further, surprising everyone with this controversial remark: "Krah is at the same level as what German chancellors have said before, like Konrad Adenauer, Helmut Kohl, and SPD member Kurt Schumacher!"

SS and Waffen-SS

Klöckner was left speechless by this radical statement. The SS was declared a criminal organization by the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg in 1946. Therefore, many right-wing extremists try to blur the line between the SS and the Waffen-SS, which fought honorably alongside the Wehrmacht, considering them one and the same.

For example, not only extremists believe that unlike the SS and its heinous crimes, particularly the Holocaust, the Waffen-SS was untarnished. They often cite the Nobel Prize winner and SPD activist, Günter Grass (+87), as an example.

Bizarre Explanation

De Masi, a supporter of Wagenknecht, exploded: "You're talking rubbish here! My grandfather lived in ditches in Italy! SS companies threw babies at house walls!"

But Holm remained unfazed: "It's true that there are individuals in every criminal organization who haven't committed any crimes. And yes, the SS was 'of course an absolutely criminal organization.' Krah sees it the same way, according to Holm. New defense strategy, according to Holm: "What we're accusing him of is that he didn't make it clear enough."

Hitler: The Absolute Evil

Klöckner put the situation into perspective with a quotation from the Thuringian AfD leader of 2017: "Mr. Höcke stated that the significant issue is that Hitler is portrayed as the absolute evil. This perfectly aligns with their narrative. They just want to feed their people the idea that everything wasn't so bad during the Third Reich."
