At 1:57 in the morning, - Container mentioning prompts for SEK action

In this scenario, authorities believe a harmless entrepreneur from Mosigkau, Germany, to be a child kidnapper holding a distressed kid captive in his basement.

The case now resides in the courtroom. It's not window-glass craftsman Frohberg who stands trial - it's his neighbor, boiler engineer Peter L. (61). He's accused of misdirecting the police with a handwritten note.

What occurred?

In the summer of 2020, a crimson balloon with a glowing LED light appeared in the small Czech city of Tabor. Tied to it was a written note declaring, "SOS. HELP!!! I'm being held captive save me!!!" An address in Mosigkau's Dessau district was provided, alongside a warning: "PS: He has weapons!"

Thomas Frohberg was overpowered by SEK officers at night because of a fake emergency call

The discoverer contacted authorities, Czech personnel, and people from Dessau. Police then dispatched an SEK squad to the provided address. However, the special forces discovered nothing. The note on the balloon was a fib.

Thomas Frohberg, a Mosigkau native, expressed his beliefs, stating, "My wife works as a teacher, she's still dealing with the aftermath of that traumatic night." The man speaking out claimed, "The only one who could be behind this is my neighbor Peter L., who's been making my life hell for years."

Handwriting expert testifies against defendant

The accused Peter L. with his defense lawyer Matthias Thielemann

During January, the local court convicted L. of false accusations and fined him 6,000 euros. A handwriting expert attested on the stand that the note likely originated from the defendant.

But Peter L. protested, telling the appeal judge on Wednesday, "I had no involvement in that incident." He also held that Frohberg harassed him and consistently reported him.

Defense attorney Thielemann plans to show L.'s innocence and called for an expert opinion from a private source, believing it to be different from the initial conclusion.

The officers searched the house in Mosigkau, but found nothing

The trial is still ongoing.
