Connecticut: Illegal Betting Den Linked to Double Murder Case

A man got arrested recently in relation to a notorious gambling spot in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This is the place where a double murder took place in March.

Sean Ellam, aged 38 and a local of Bridgeport, was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with possessing a firearm illegally, messing with evidence and robbing a firearm. According to the Connecticut Post news publication.

He went and turned himself in to the Bridgeport authorities. Ellam was hauled in, booked and his bail set at $75,000. His case is now in the hands of prosecutors who work for the Bridgeport Superior Court.

More Arrests Coming Soon

Detective Jeffrey Holtz from the Bridgeport Police Department said that "this is the first of what will be multiple arrests linked to the shooting deaths of two men who robbed ... this illicit gambling den".

The Stratford Avenue establishment was shut down by the authorities after the murders of March 30th.

Richard Davis, 30, and Tayvon Geter, 32, both citizens of Bridgeport, were seriously injured in the shootings. Both men were found outside the gambling den.

They were sent to the hospital in Bridgeport where they sadly passed away.

Two more victims were also shot during this spree. They're a 34-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, both residing in Bridgeport. Their names are yet to be revealed.

These two individuals survived the shooting and received medical treatment for their injuries at a local hospital.

The two survivors claimed to be inside the gambling den when the gunfire broke out.

The Violence is Condemned

In a press conference last month, Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim and Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter Sr. spoke out against the violence. They warned people about the risks associated with after-hours clubs and urged residents to inform the police about any shady stuff going on at these places.

Ganim shared that city officials will do everything they can to enforce the laws on any illegal activities.

"We will pursue this collectively through our Police Department, our Health Department, our Fire Department - where they fit in to shut this down, this illegal night activity, social club, whatever you want to call it, which stirred on this illegal night of violence and the loss of two Bridgeport residents as the victims of shootings," Ganim told the Post.

Up to now, the local police haven't given many details about the tragic March killings.

Porter, standing at the gambling den, said that "this was a conflict that started inside this illegitimate operation" and if it hadn't been there, the violence wouldn't have happened.

Bridgeport is found 64 miles east of New York City. For a long time, casino supporters have pushed for the establishment of a legal casino in Bridgeport.
