Unexpected departure? - Concerns Raised Over Tennis Model
Camila Giorgi, a 32-year-old tennis player from Italy, was once ranked 26th in the world. However, she gained attention for her intriguing Instagram photos. She even has her own underwear brand, "Giomila."
Giorgi has a casual attitude towards her career, stating that "Tennis is just a job for me, nothing else. I don't follow tennis. I'd prefer to go for a walk on the beach with friends."
Recently, she's vanished without a trace. Three days ago, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) listed her as retired. With a world ranking of 123rd, her social media accounts (734,000 Instagram followers) have remained inactive, and she has not made any announcements.
No one can locate the former gymnast. She's changed her phone number, and her father and coach Sergio, a native of Argentina, cannot be reached, nor can the rest of her family. WTA or ITIA are also unable to contact her.
ITIA is looking into doping offenses. Is this the reason Giorgi has gone into hiding? There is no information about positive tests, but the Vicenza public prosecutor's office is investigating another case involving her.
It's said Giorgi went to the 2022 Australian Open with a fake vaccination certificate, implying she wasn't vaccinated. These allegations haven't been confirmed. The family doctor was arrested and Giorgi denies the accusations.
Giorgi's last appearance on the court was on March 23 at the Masters in Miami, where she lost to world number one Iga Swiatek (22/Poland). Tathiana Garbin, team manager for Italy's Billie Jean King Cup, hasn't seen or heard from her in months.
Her life has been filled with extreme highs and lows. She reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 2018 and achieved four tournament victories, but also faced the vaccination certificate scandal and tax issues that led to her father Sergio's conflict with the law. In 2011, her older sister Antonella died in a car accident in Paris.
In Italy, people are concerned about her wellbeing. The wish is for Camila to appear healthy and reappear soon.
