Heed the alert on WhatsApp calls. - Con artists pose as advocates for consumers.
The latest scam involves con artists who pose as employees of the European Consumer Center Germany (ECC). They appear to offer their assistance over WhatsApp, claiming to help with significant losses from financial products or to unfreeze supposedly locked accounts. Their ultimate goal, however, is to request money.
The real ECC is sounding an alarm and advising extreme caution, urging consumers not to engage in any conversation with these imposters. The fraudsters are utilizing the ECC's name and logo to deceive potential victims.
It's essential to be aware of the following:
- The genuine ECC doesn't make unsolicited contact with people who have experienced such issues.
- ECC assistance is always free of charge.
- Any requests for payment in connection with ECC Germany are initiated only by the scammers.
Should there be any uncertainty, contacts can be made directly with the European Consumer Center Germany.
