Grieving over the loss of Disney icon Richard Sherman. - Composer of "Jungle Book" passes away at age 95.
Broadcasting legend Richard Sherman, famed for co-writing Disney classics like "Mary Poppins" and "The Jungle Book," has passed away at the ripe young age of 96.
Joining forces with his elder sibling Robert, the musical duo penned hundreds of tunes for countless cinema and television productions.
In Germany, Sherman is most famous for the tracks from "The Jungle Book" — "I Wanna Be Like You," also known as "Ich wär’ so gern wie du" in the German version.
During his 65-year Hollywood journey, Sherman snagged two Oscars — both for the iconic musical "Mary Poppins" of 1964, and the cute tune "Chim Chim Cher-ee." He was a regular at the podium, with nine nominations in total under his belt, and three Grammy Awards and 24 gilded LPs.
A Disney statement read: "Crowds of cinephiles and theme park visitors were enchanted by the captivating, timeless music created by the Sherman brothers. Their work is the definitive melody of Disney."
Survivors include Sherman's long-term spouse Elizabeth, two daughters, a son, a multitude of grandchildren, and proud great-grandkids. Sherman is set to be laid to rest in Los Angeles on Friday.
