Community effort undertaken by Gauselmann UK.
Gauselmann UK, a part of the German Merkur owner, has started a social campaign for responsible gambling. They're working with the Global Gambling Guidance Group (G4), which encourages safety standards worldwide. Recently in August, Gauselmann UK launched a campaign to strengthen ties with politicians. What's the scoop on these programs?
Prioritizing Corporate Philosophy
A mere three months after their political move, Gauselmann UK is displaying its social commitment again. They're focused on the 360 project, claimed to be the nation's biggest responsible gambling project. This initiative strives to enhance gameplay while establishing new consumer safeguards.
360 has been developed under G4's close supervision, a group based in Amsterdam that promotes a gaming culture globally aligned with legal requirements. G4 mainly concentrates on putting measures in place to stop problem gambling without diminishing the gaming experience.
Gauselmann UK is now undergoing a cultural review using a specific action plan. Employee surveys across organizational levels are planned to build infrastructure with social responsibility at its core. A six-person advisory board will set objectives and create a success measurement method.
To implement best practice methods at Gauselmann UK, G4 will draw on models of certified operators, adapting them to suit the company. An example is Novomatic AG, which received the highest international player protection standard - the G4 certificate, a year ago. This Group passed the stringent guidelines of 100 auditors focusing on internal policies, codes of conduct, employee training on age verification, youth protection, addiction prevention, and money laundering. Their self-exclusion tools are also assessed.
Appointment Of Customer Experience Manager
The G4 program's key goal is to have a Customer Experience Manager position. This role is specifically hired to manage and adjust existing practices as needed. The appointee will report directly to the CEO.
Sascha Blodau, Gauselmann UK's General Manager, stated that social responsibility holds equal significance as game design and customer service moving forward. The Merkur Cashinos operator is one of the top contenders in the industry, so player protection is crucial. The motto is that no effort is too much to keep customers safe.
Gauselmann UK has the support of the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) and the British Amusement Catering Trade Association (BACTA). They've also gained the assistance of aid organizations like GamCare and YGAM, now also backed by the British Gambling Council (BGC). Blodau mentioned that these organizations have endorsed Gauselmann's campaign to adhere to the highest safety standards.
Political Charm Offensive in August
Apart from regulatory authorities, player protection groups, and politicians, Gauselmann UK is going after the latter. In August, they started a charm offensive, inviting local MPs to their centers to raise awareness of the financial benefits brought to local communities by their arcades.
The campaign started with Conservative MP Mark Pawsey's visit to the Merkur Cashino (AGC) in Warwickshire. After observing the measures taken to secure guests and employees upon reopening, he praised them.
Gambling Reform On The Rise
With Gauselmann UK's expansion in the UK since 2019, they're keen to develop relationships with more politicians. They want to ensure politicians fully grasp what Merkur Cashinos represent. Inadequate understanding has often led to political errors that hurt local branches.
Also, the British gambling reform is brewing, bringing stricter regulations with it. The Gambling Act of 2005, which hasn't been upgraded, includes betting limits for betting terminals, credit card bans, a ban on specific VIP programs, and jersey sponsorship bans.
Politicians in the UK recently discussed old laws that need to be replaced with a new Gaming Act. It's possible that Gauselmann is prepping for potential future changes and is therefore emphasizing player protection more. We'll see if the Merkur owner adds more similar measures soon.
