International Ice Hockey Competition - Comical masked hat for top performer
The Berlin Polar Bears often present a comical and sometimes slightly awkward tradition following a win. They place a fur hat on their top player in the league, along with a plaid lumberjack shirt.
The national team, under coach Marco Sturm, has had its own share of quirky traditions. At one point, they awarded their player with an ugly glitter jacket as a special token. The player would keep it until their next victory and then pass it on.
You might wonder what sets the German team apart at these championships. Captain Moritz Müller's team has opted for headgear reminiscent of a bulldog's head. This "mask-cap" is all in black, with only the bulldog's head, and lacks any ears.
It's not a pretty sight, but it's amusing enough to make you laugh out loud when you see it. NHL star Nico Sturm summed it up perfectly when he said, "We all want to have fun."
